Colour Voting Poll & the Arrival of mobu connect Samples

Colour Voting Poll & the Arrival of mobu connect Samples

Posted by Lee on 17th Jan 2018

Welcome to the 12th week since we reached the end of mobu's Kickstarter campaign!

Happy New Year folks! We hope, like us, you enjoyed the holiday season and got to spend time laughing and eating good food with friends and family.

We’re aware it’s been longer than two weeks since our last update, but we’re hoping you’ll let is slip as it was Christmas after all! Without further ado, here are the big updates we’ve got for you on progress with mobu and mobu connect.

mobu connect samples are here!

Christmas didn’t end in December for us. Late last week we received samples of mobu connect from our factory and they look great! Here are a few pics.

We’re going to carry out some testing with these parts over the following few days and will let you know how things go.

Vote for your favourite colours!

We know we gave you the choice of which colour mobu you wanted during the campaign: black, white or red. But what we haven’t asked you yet is which black, which white and which red!

RAL colour swatch fan deck

We went ahead and ordered a RAL colour swatch fan deck, which has given us a little insight into how the manufacturing colours look in real life compared to on the screen. This will definitely help us with future projects as well ;)

Please vote!

We’d like you to help decide the specific shades of each colour we should order from the factory, so we’ve setup a little poll for you. Please click here to complete our short colour survey. The chosen colours will be announced in our next update!

Shipping Delayed Until Early March

After extensive testing* over the holiday period we have determined that, although the changes we made to the mould seem to have improved the durability of mobu and how it connects to other mobus, the durability (i.e. how long mobu lasts) still isn't up to our high standards.

We have therefore made the difficult decision to delay dispatch of mobu until March. This will allow us to make one final change to the mould before beginning production. This is a conservative target so we're hoping to be able to dispatch earlier, but would rather be pessimistic than optimistic when it comes to the manufacturing timeline.

Although this delay is obviously disappointing for you and us, we feel it's the best thing to do right now. After all, I’m sure you’ll agree that it’s better for us to ship out something we're proud of, and something you'll come to love after years of use, than ship something which may break on you in a few month’s time and lay forgotten in a drawer somewhere.

The proposed changes are highlighted in green

The proposed changes are highlighted in green The change we’re proposing to the factory is a small one, but as with anything manufacturing-related it will likely take a few weeks, meaning production will now fall over Chinese New Year. Most factories close for 2-3 weeks around Chinese New Year which is why this delay in perhaps longer than you might expect.

The good news is that with this new change durability of mobu skyrocketed and we’re much happier with how it stood up to the rigorous testing we put it through.

*Fun fact! During testing Simon clipped together and then separated sample mobus over 13,000 times… by hand!

New Intern

Last week we had a new intern, Amaan, start work with us. Over the next 6 weeks he’s going to be working on producing some handy “how-to” videos of mobu, mobu connect and our last product, Nimble. We can’t wait to see what he comes up with and will be sure to share the odd snippet with you!

Until next time,
Simon & Lee
